Is learning a product or a process?
Since we have moved in to the industrial age and then the information age,we value the abilityto learn because it directly ties in to the ability to earn. With this assumption learning becomes a product. A means to an end.
But once again we are moving into a new age. The age of understanding. "Understanding" poses the question, "How much do we know about what we know". The question of; "Is this information correct or incorrect" is being replaced with;" is this information useful and relevant". A process based paradigm of learning. An understanding that all systems of thought are arbitrary systems that can be easily adapted to meet the continuously changing world.
Neuroplasticity (The brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural pathways thoughout the course of a persons life) was a discovery that changed the mind of neuroscience. The discovery suggests that the brain creates new cells and neural networks throughout the entire phase of a persons life. We previously thought the brain reached a point of full maturity and then stopped growing.
Tai Chi is a wonderful practice for creating new neural pathways in the brain. It also provides a lifetime of continuous learning that has no end to the self discovery that can be unravelled .The people that reap the most benefits from Tai Chi are the ones that have a genuine passion and joy for learning something new.
